Sacrifice of motherhood represents for the artist at least the loss of oneself through the experience of motherhood. Women evolve through this challenging time, and you will see depicted in this piece ‘the fertility trickster’ who holds the symbol of fertility, and mother with scissors to cut off her own hair, cutting away who she once was. This journey is raw and beautiful, for eventually we then have the opportunity to rebuild oneself. I am very fortunate now to be well into my own rebuilding phase.
